Review: Tong Shian Porridge

I’ve been sick for a while, so Mr M and I went to Tong Shian Porridge for a yummy, good-for-sick-people meal.

We usually just order the pork porridge, but this time around, we decided to try the claypot frog legs as well!

The sauce! SO SO good! Next time, we will order plain porridge so we can drizzle the sauce all over our porridge and savour it fully. This time, Mr M had the pork porridge while I had the shredded chicken porridge, so the frog legs were fighting with the chicken porridge for my attention. Next time, I’ll give the frog legs my undivided attention!

Speaking of the shredded chicken porridge… the chicken was in no way “shredded”! They were very generous chunks of chicken, and so tender and well-marinated too! The porridge itself had no visible seasoning (no sign of the usual sesame oil or soy sauce etc), but was so flavourful that Mr M concluded that it must have been cooked with some awesome soup stock. Whatever the secret is… damn, the porridge is good.

The prices are very reasonable too! Our meal was under $20, including drinks. The best part is that we went at 4pm in the afternoon, and the place was empty. Previously, we always went during dinner time, so it would be packed and we’d have to wait for a table and queue to order. I just LOVE going out on weekday afternoons, when most other people are at work!
